AccessScience bookmarklets
AccessScience, the online version of the McGraw-Hill Encyclopedia of Science and Technology, has announced the availability of bookmarklets for common browsers such as Internet Explorer and Firefox/Safari.
What can a bookmarklet do for you? If you save the bookmarklet within your browser (following the instructions on the website) you can use it to go directly to AccessScience the next time you are browsing on the web and encounter a sci-tech word or concept with which you are unfamiliar. Simply highlight the word(s) and then click on your bookmarklet to launch a search on that term within AccessScience (your browser will open a second window with your AccessScience results, so you do not need to leave the original website). The advantages? A minimum number of clicks and quick access to a comprehensive and authoritative reference tool.

What is for dinner? — instant inspiration
Librarian extraordinaire Tara Calishain (who has her own blog at http://www.researchbuzz.org/) has created a cool little tool called Cooking with Google to launch Google searches at cooking sites for recipe ingredients that you, the user, specify. You can try it here next time you're hungry and there's not much left in the cupboard.
